Preparing Your Home for the Market

This detailed checklist has been prepared by 3 Sisters Group Real Estate to help you maximize your home’s value, appeal to buyers, and ensure your property is market-ready for photos and showings.

General Home Preparation

        o Pack and store items not used daily to reduce clutter

        o Hire a professional deep cleaner (floors, baseboards, windows, fixtures)

        o Depersonalize: remove family photos, memorabilia, and personal items

        o Ensure all lights, faucets, doors, and hardware are in working order

        o Maximize lighting: replace bulbs with highest recommended wattage

        o Eliminate odours—do not mask them with air fresheners

        o Secure valuables, documents, and sentimental items

        o Keep surfaces clear (counters, dressers, tables)

Closets (All)

        o Remove items from floors

        o Pack excess clothing to make closets appear half-full

        o Use matching hangers where possible

        o Store items neatly in baskets or bins

        o Remove door hooks and items hanging on doors

Curb Appeal & Exterior

        o Remove dead plants, empty pots, and visible garbage

        o Store garbage and recycling bins out of sight

        o Mow lawn, trim hedges, weed garden beds

        o Power wash walkways and driveway

        o Clean exterior windows and light fixtures

        o Add simple greenery or planters to the front entrance

Kitchen

        o Remove small appliances, dish racks, and clutter from counters

        o Clean appliances inside and out

        o Organize cupboards and remove excess items

        o Remove magnets, papers, and photos from fridge

        o Empty garbage daily and minimize strong cooking smells

Bathrooms

        o Remove toiletries, rugs, garbage cans, and personal items

        o Use clean white towels and neutral shower curtain

        o Ensure grout and caulking are clean and in good condition

        o Clean mirrors, fixtures, toilets, tubs, and floors thoroughly

Living, Dining & Family Rooms

        o Remove excess furniture and décor

        o Hide cords, electronics, and cable boxes

        o Clean floors and steam-clean carpets if needed

        o Ensure fireplaces are clean and free of debris

Bedrooms

        o Remove personal items and valuables

        o Clear floors and surfaces

        o Use neutral bedding and minimal décor

        o Ensure closets are neat and organized

Laundry Room, Office & Basement

        o Remove laundry and excess supplies

        o Clear floors and surfaces

        o Organize cords and paperwork

        o Ensure all areas are well-lit and clean
